(with Artist, Suzanne O'Brien)
Saturday, March 7th from 10:00am - 4:00pm
Have you ever wondered how beautiful nuno-felted scarves are created? In this course you will learn the basics of nuno-felting, and the materials and techniques necessary to create this unique form of wearable art. In class we will use those techniques to create a lightweight and beautiful accessory unique to your own style and taste.
This class is for adults, ages 18 and up. Felting can be repetitive and labor intensive. Please be prepared to stand for significant portions of class time. Special felting tools will be available, and alternate rolling techniques can be used if standing is a challenge. Wet felting is wet and soapy at times, and hand dyed fiber can sometimes bleed dye. Please wear appropriate clothing, bring several old bath towels, and be prepared to have some ‘good clean fun’.
Supply fee of $35 in addition to the course fee will include: superfine merino wool, silk chiffon scarf base, olive oil soap, and use of instructor’s equipment necessary for felting.
Other materials students will need to bring are 3-4 old bath towels and a plastic bag to bring wet towels and project home. Lunch is not supplied so please feel free to bring a bagged lunch, or something to snack on.
Suzanne O’Brien is a fiber artist and creates handmade wool felt gift items and accessories for her business, ‘ZanieCrafts’. She enjoys working with fine wool and silk fibers and uses the magical process of wet felting to make her ideas come to life. Suzanne learned the art of felt making while she was living abroad with her family in New Zealand. She enjoys creating with a lot of color, and likes to include reclaimed, recycled, and found items into her work whenever possible. Suzanne and her husband are Illinois natives, but are happy to call Western New York home.
