Nuno-Felted Scarf

(with Artist, Suzanne O'Brien)
Friday, July 20th from 11:00am - 4:00pm

Have you ever wondered how beautiful nuno-felted scarves are created? In this course you will explore the history of nuno-felting and learn the materials and techniques necessary to create this unique form of wearable art. Students will use a variety of techniques to create a lightweight and warm scarf unique to their own style and taste. Special felting tools will be available to try, and different rolling techniques/modifications will be discussed to ensure success for everyone.

The Supply Fee includes superfine merino wool, silk chiffon scarf base, olive oil soap, net fabric, and bubble wrap to complete project. Students will need to bring 2 old bath towels, 2 pairs of knee high panty hose for ties (old unusable hose will work), washtub to collect water, a plastic dropcloth for 6’ table and enough to protect floor under table. Lunch is not supplied so please feel free to bring a bagged lunch, or something to snack on.

Suzanne O’Brien is a fiber artist and creates handmade wool felt gift items and accessories for her business, ‘ZanieCrafts’. She enjoys working with fine wool and silk fibers and uses the magical process of wet felting to make her ideas come to life. Suzanne learned the art of felt making while she was living abroad with her family in New Zealand.  She enjoys creating with a lot of color, and likes to include reclaimed, recycled, and found items into her work whenever possible.  Suzanne and her husband are Illinois natives, but are happy to call Western New York home.
