Watercolor Painting Workshop

(with Roycroft Campus Artist-in-Residence, Kateri Ewing)
Saturday, April 22 from 9:00am - 4:00pm

This one day workshop will focus on developing a life-sized watercolour painting of a bluebird on a branch. The workshop will be geared for intermediate and advanced students, but beginners with some experience are welcome. Concept, value, edges, composition, color mixing, and brush handling will be topics discussed. The Instructor will give a step-by-step demonstration on her own painting and then give students time to complete each phase on their own. Students will also receive individual instructions and suggestions throughout the day, as time allows. The day will focus instruction on materials, composition, planning the execution of the painting, and various painting techniques.

Since painting is very a personal activity and there are is such a large variety of materials available, no supplies will be provided for this class. Instead, students are asked to purchase the materials that meet their individual tastes. Please click on the materials list for suggested items prior to the start of class.

East Aurora watercolorist, Kateri Ewing is known for her richly detailed paintings of songbirds, flora, and Western New York landscapes. Largely self taught and committed to her development as a painter, Ewing’s technique evolves with every subject she paints. Kateri is eternally grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the natural world that surrounds her. Even more so, she finds appreciation in her ability to create something lasting and beautiful from it. In every piece she creates, she continually hopes to discover and reveal the intricate cycles of nature. For her artistic endeavors and her dedication to community, she was honored with the 2012 Mary and Gil Stott Award at Roycroft and is also a Roycroft Renaissance Artisan in watercolor and ink.
