Twisted Glass Icicles
(with Artist, Vicki Schneider)
Thursday, November 16th from 6:00pm - 8:30pm
Create lovely glass icicles to adorn your Christmas tree or hang in your window all year long. You will learn how to melt, stretch and twist clear and colored glass at a stationary torch under close supervision. You may also be able to make a smaller version of an icicle to wear as a pendant. No experience is necessary - only a willingness to try.
This workshop does not take place on the Roycroft Campus, but at the instructor’s studio Expressive Glass (3333 Lake Shore Rd, Hamburg, NY 14219), near the Woodlawn Beach between the Ford and steel plants on Route 5. Students should wear clothes that are at least 80% natural fibers (not rayon or polyester), tie back long hair, wear closed shoes/sneakers, and do not wear loose necklaces or bracelets. No experience is necessary. All materials and supplies will be provided for the class. NOTE: Your work will be available for pick up after they have annealed (heated and cooled gradually to remove thermal stress) approximately 1-3 days after the class. If you prefer, your beads can be shipped to you for an additional $7 payable to the instructor.
Vicki Schneider’s fascination with glass dates back to a field trip she took as a young child to the Corning Museum of Glass. In 2006 she melted her first rod of glass and her love affair with flameworking began. Vicki has studied with some of the world’s most highly respected glass artists, including world-renown Venetian sculptors Emilio Santini and Lucio Bubacco. She opened Expressive Glass in 2009 to share her passion and introduce others to the magic of flameworking. Ms. Schneider is a NYS certified teacher and international speaker, and her work is sold at prestigious venues, including the GlassMarket at the Corning Museum of Glass and WheatonArts The Gallery of Fine Craft (Milville, NJ). In 2015, she was selected by Glassation.com as one of “18 Game-Changing Female Glass Artists.” She has earned Juried Artist status and co-chairs the jury for the Arts and Craftsmen Guild.
