Alburn Sleeper,a Roycroft Master Artisan, offers a two-day hands-on workshop in metalsmithing.
Each participant will complete 2 projects; one in copper and one in silver. The copper piece will be a household item which allows for some learning and experimentation prior to working on the silver item which will be a wearable piece of art. Artist will select and design items to be made.
Some of the following skills will be taught and used while others may only be demonstrated: making a chasing tool, Roycroft chasing techniques, Roycroft design, hammering techniques and styles, soldering, filing, repousse, hand-finishing, surface texturing and patination.
Materials fee covers metal for projects and consumables (sandpaper, gas, patina solution, saw blades, associated machinery and tools etc.). Tools will be provided by, and remain the property of, the instructor.

Alburn Sleeper, a Master Roycroft Artisan in metal, has been working in the arts and crafts metal and jewelry area for over 50 years. He is a former student of Walter U. Jennings who taught him to make the traditional Roycroft square rose, a floral motif referred to by Mr. Jennings as the “tudor rose”.
Mr. Sleeper designs and creates Roycroft style jewelry and metal ware and has many pieces in national as well as international collections.
