presents              What: Block Printing: Make your own two-color block printed note cards with                       Laura Wilder, Roycroft Renaissance Master Artistan When: Friday-Sunday, September 19 - 21, 2008 Friday 7:00 -9:00pm –             Reception + Saturday & Sunday             10:00am to 4:00pm Where: The Copper Shop Gallery - Located on the national historic landmark              Roycroft Campus at  31 South Grove Street in East Aurora, NY  14052   About:   Students will be making note cards in two colors by carving, inking and printing a separate linoleum block for each color. A few choices of designs will be provided, but students are welcome to use their own designs as well. Each student will go home with some printed cards and a kit for doing more printmaking at home. Laura will first demonstrate the making of a multi-colored print. Samples of Laura’s prints and blocks will be on display. She will then take the class through the process as you transfer designs onto blocks, carve the blocks, mix the inks, apply the ink to the blocks, and print the blocks onto paper using (not a press!) a wooden spoon. Materials to be supplied include paper, linoleum blocks, inks, wooden spoons, brayers (rollers), carving gouges, tracing paper, transfer paper, 2 or 3 sample designs, and a wooden platform with edges for safe carving. Fees: $200* class fee + $60 materials fee Maximum of 12 students           *Fee includes Friday Nite reception and two lunches Registration is required for all workshops! Instructor:   A Rochester NY native, Laura got her BA in Studio Art from Hamilton College and a diploma from a local commercial art school. She then worked for several years as a graphic designer, art director, and commercial illustrator. Eventually, weary of cheesy advertising concepts and brutal deadlines, she decided to quit the world of advertising and try becoming a real artist.
